David John Dragonfly, of Blackfeet/Assiniboine Indian descent, was born on June 9, 1956 in Kalispell, Montana. David attended public schools in Browning, Montana, graduating from Browning High School in 1974. Although he is primarily a self-taught artist, first teaching himself the use of acrylic paints, he attended the Bureau of Indian Affairs Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico from 1982 to 1984. While a student at I.A.I.A., David learned the art of stone carving. Mr. Dragonfly attended the University of Montana in Missoula where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 1988. David Dragonfly's artwork is included in the permanent collection of student work at the Institute of American Indian Arts. He has parti- cipated at the Colorado Indian Market, Denver; Big Sky Indian Market, Billings; Red Sky Indian and Cowboy Art Show at Canby, Oregon and the Great Falls Native American Art Show, Great Falls, Montana. David Dragonfly resides in Browning, Montana.
